Graduate Application Procedures
(Procedures for Spring/Fall 2002)

Before you apply:

· University requirements:

- Hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.

- 2.75 GPA in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted for domestic coursework. This does not include lower level courses taken after award of baccalaureate degree. A 3.00 cumulative GPA for international coursework.

- Have been in good standing at the last institution attended.

The Admission Process:

Applying to the University is a two-step process as detailed below:

1. Apply to the University

You are required to submit the CSU application form to the SDSU office of Graduate Admissions.

In order to expedite the processing of your application you may go to the CSU Mentor online application and submit both application and the $55 fee online.

Paper application forms may be obtained from the department or Graduate Admissions on any CSU campus, and submitted to:

II. To the Department:: submit an admissions packet

Assemble one complete admission packet. A complete packet contains the following:

1) Two sets of Authentic and official transcripts of all previous academic work attempted.

· You must submit 2 sets of official transcripts in the sealed envelopes from each issuing institution. This would include all degree transcripts and a transcript from the last institution attended. Your transcripts must reflect the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted.

· Students with international coursework must submit all official transcripts and proofs of degree. If certificates and transcripts are not in English, they should be accompanied by certified English translations.

2) Copies of exams scores (GRE and TOEFL). These do not need to be official copies.

3) Official copies of exam scores are to be submitted to the Graduate Admissions office at San Diego State University:

- GRE/GMAT test scores (SDSU ADD/Institution Code is 4682)

- TOEFL test score (TOEFL is required if Postsecondary instruction is in a language other than English)

Send your completed admission packet directly to the department.

The Spring 2002 graduate application deadline is December 1, 2001; for Fall 2002, the date is July 1, 2002. Some programs may have earlier deadlines, please consult with your department. In order to ensure consideration, you must have all the application materials to both the Office of Graduate Admissions and the department by the deadline.

Department Admissions Packet Checklist

The completed application packet should be returned to: SDSU, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, 5500 Campanile Dr., San Diego, Ca 92182-1324 and should contain the following:

 

1. Two sets of Official Transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions you have attended. A transcript will be considered official only in its officially sealed envelope.

 

2. Graduate Record Exam/GMAT/TOEFL scores are to be sent directly to the SDSU from the Educational Testing Service. The correct institution number for San Diego State University is 4682. (http://www.ets.org/)

 

3. A statement of professional goals, typed on a separate sheet of paper. This is your opportunity to describe your special characteristics or skills and to articulate how your goals are compatible with the program to which you are applying.

 

NOTE: An incomplete packet will delay the admissions process
